Military Credentialing: Turning Service Experience into IT Certifications

Your service record already covers much of what a civilian IT certification tests. Credentialing programmes exist to pay for the class and the exam that close the gap.

We train service members, veterans, reservists and military spouses in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and live online. This is the short version of which funding route applies to whom.

Which funding programmes apply?

Before you plan around a number: Funding caps and eligibility are set by each programme and change by fiscal year. Check the current limit on the programme’s own site before you plan around a figure.

Which certifications do military students usually take?

The pattern we see most: CompTIA A+ then Network+ and Security+ for anyone moving into IT or needing a DoD-recognised credential; CySA+ or CEH for signals and cyber roles; CISSP or CISM for senior NCOs and officers moving into management; Microsoft Azure or Cisco for infrastructure work. See Army IgnitED for how we invoice the Army directly.

What does it cost a military student?

Military personnel get 10% off our published prices, and in most cases a credentialing programme covers the balance rather than you paying out of pocket. Because the programmes cap what they pay per fiscal year, the practical question is usually sequencing — which certification this year, which next — and we are happy to plan that on the phone.

What about veterans and spouses?

Veterans: our Education Dollars for Duty and WIOA pages cover the routes that apply after service. Spouses: the SpouseWorks Scholarship (formerly MyCAA) funds a licence, certification or associate degree up to $4,000, subject to an annual cap.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Army Credentialing Assistance at The Academy?

Yes. See our Army IgnitED page for how that works. The current funding cap is set by Army policy and changes by fiscal year, so check Army COOL for the figure.

Is MyCAA still called MyCAA?

It is now the SpouseWorks Scholarship. It funds a licence, certification or associate degree up to $4,000, with an annual cap.

Do you offer a military discount?

Yes, 10% for military personnel and government employees, on top of any credentialing funding.

Which certification should I start with?

If you are moving into IT, CompTIA A+ then Network+ and Security+ is the usual sequence. If you already work in a technical role, we will look at your experience and skip you forward.

Do you train active duty students online?

Yes. Every course runs live online as well as in class, which is what most deployed and shift-working students use.
