Program Description

Students who enroll in the 185-clock-hour HVAC/R Technology Program acquire knowledge of the
heating and cooling cycles alongside the fundamental principles of the controls and electrical systems
used in HVAC equipment. Students learn to troubleshoot the mechanical and electrical systems of both
residential and commercial HVAC installations, and study the principles behind EPA Section 608
Certification. Students who sit and pass the exam obtain EPA Universal Certification.

Program Objective

The HVAC/R Technology Program trains students for entry-level employment in the construction
maintenance and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration industries.

How You Train

This is a hands-on program taught in person at our Miami campus. You work with real equipment and
real tools alongside a certified instructor — the practical skills an employer expects on day one
cannot be learned from a screen.

Certification

EPA Section 608 Certification. Students must sit for and pass the exam to earn
EPA Universal Certification.

Prerequisite: None. No prior HVAC experience is required to begin the program.

Basic HVAC system operation — heating and cooling systems, airflow principles, and electrical circuits — with hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting using industry-standard tools.

Advanced troubleshooting, system diagnostics, electrical controls, and refrigeration servicing, with practical experience on residential and light commercial equipment.

HVAC/R4 HVAC Safety 1
Essential safety standards and regulatory requirements: OSHA guidelines, proper tool use, personal protective equipment, and safe handling of refrigerants and electrical systems.

HVAC/R5 HVAC Safety 2
Hazard recognition, lockout/tagout procedures, environmental regulations, and emergency response, with emphasis on real-world safety scenarios and OSHA and EPA compliance.

Competencies for Employment

The HVAC Technician Program prepares students to perform all functions of an entry-level HVAC
technician. Students receive both theoretical knowledge and hands-on training in the installation,
maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration
systems. On successful completion of all course requirements and financial obligations, students are
awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Graduate Performance

Graduates can install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC/R systems, and are prepared to perform
entry-level technician duties while applying industry standards, safety procedures, and effective
problem-solving in real work environments.
